Modernizing local long-term care – District 25

Jun 15, 2022

A $2,500 grant from District 25 Stormont Dundas Glengarry in 2021 will support a fundraising campaign for a new Dundas Manor in Winchester.

The not-for-profit Dundas Manor (dundasmanor.ca) is the sole long-term care home serving seniors in Dundas County. The home was built in 1978 and no longer meets the needs of its residents, staff and volunteers. A new, modern residence, to be built behind the present location, next to Winchester District Memorial Hospital, will add 30 beds to the current 98.

The new Dundas Manor will improve quality of life for residents, with more accessible spaces, wider halls and larger windows, and greater individualized and resident-directed care. Construction is expected to start in mid-2022, with residents moving in November 2024.

“The new Dundas Manor will make a huge impact on geriatric health, and enable residents to live with more dignity, choice and privacy,” says Delores Biddy, president, District 25 Stormont Dundas Glengarry.

The District 25 funding is part of RTOERO’s annual Community Grants program. Districts apply for individual projects (education-related or other community initiatives) that support local programs. Up to $2,500 per project is available.

Since the inception of the Community Grants program 21 years ago, RTOERO has donated $1.85 million to more than 525 programs and projects.
