Upper Canada Suffers Cyber attack – How does that affect me?

Feb 05, 2025

In December 2024, just over a month ago, the Upper Canada District School Board suffered a cyber attack.  A great amount of data was stolen and many of their systems were shut down.  But you may ask, how does this affect me?

If you ever worked for the Upper Canada District School Board during your career, or made any financial transactions with them, your identity, bank account, social insurance number, present and past address information, among other details, may now be at risk of being sold on the internet for scammers to use.

Most current and former staff, have been contacted and instructed on what to do and how to protect their personal identities.  If you have not received any communication from them as of February first 2025, you must call the Board Office immediately to request help.

You, or anyone you know, that worked for the UCDSB on or after 1999, are at risk.

What should you do:

  1. Tell all of your friends and former colleagues to check for communications from the UCDSB.
  2. Contact the Board Office immediately if you, or they, have not received anything in the mail.
  3. Watch for suspicious e-mails, phone calls and requests for personal information.  It is best to say as little as possible and hang up immediately.  If you receive an unexpected call from someone who may be posing as a friend or relative, tell them you will call them back and use your address book and not your telephone display to dial the number you know is valid.
  4. Follow the Upper Canada District School Board’s directives and offers if you feel uneasy about the breach.

Stay safe.

Your District 25 Executive.
